This non-denominational event was fun for all who attended and we are looking forward to next year's event to be even better. Here's some background on the event's beginnings: The long-time custom of the Blessing of the Animals is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures. Francis, whose feast day is October 4th, loved the larks flying about his hilltop town and wrote an ode to God's living things. To this day the bond between person and pet is like no other relationship, because the communication between fellow creatures is at its most basic. No wonder people enjoy the annual opportunity to take their animal companions to various sites for a special blessing. A.W. Brown's first hosting of the pet blessing and family-oriented event was designed to offer a spiritual celebration to honor our loyal companions who love us unconditionally. Those who attend are encouraged to bring all of their cherished animals and enjoy this special day.
